mystery jets (part 2)
Let’s talk about personal style for a moment:

The Mystery Jets are an amazing band that I already wrote about in Part 1 of this post. But I had to take a moment to educate people about what personal style means. These clothes wouldn’t work on everyone, but they are no doubt fabulous. I love their use of spring pastels. It is the type of clothing that I would expect to see, probably in seersucker, on the boys at the Greenville Country Club. Look at the way that each members outfit blends into the next ones. The orange suit is accented with a light blue button-up, which picks up on the slacks – which are being worn with a simple yellow belt and white flat polo, which flows into the white suite worn by the next member – whose white suit is accented with a pink button-up, which of course matches the pants of the guy next to him. OMG!
Don’t get me started on the hair. I would love to see the guys at Brown University take chances with their wardrobe. These guys, no matter if you like the outfit or not, are making a statement.

silver lining
This semester I found myself doing something I never thought that I would do – I painted my nails. As a smoker I have become really conscious about my hands; what they are doing, what they look like, and are they sending any message besides announcing, by the presence of my Marlboro Menthol Light, how cancer is always a girl’s best friend. Having never before painted my nails, I didn’t know what was “hot” for Fall/Winter 2008, but the gods* steered me towards black and I up until now I haven’t looked back. However, as everyone and their mother jumped on that bandwagon, I wanted to see what was going to be hot in the coming year.
My answer?

I am going with metalic polishes over a dark base. I found this amazing polish at ArtofBeauty.com, click the picture for the site, and fell madly in love. I may be gay, but as a man I can’t bring myself to wear bright or sunny colors on my nails, so this metalic silver over a matte nail seems perfect for me. Flashy without being overly dramatic, it’s the perfect color to match the color of my cigarette filter. If you want something a little more eye-catching, I can see how with the right nail and skin tone a gold would do the same job fabulously.
Just my opinion though.
