resolve

Today is the last day of the year. It is a time for self-reflection; a chance to put away the baggage and resolve to enter the next year wiser, and without the burdens of the last twelve months. It is an opportunity to change the habits and instincts that may have proved self-destructive. It is time to learn what “self-destructive” means for you. It is a time to come to terms with the things that didn’t work out the way you had hoped, and resolve to do better, try harder, or recognize quicker and move on. It is time to celebrate your successes, with the knowledge that tomorrow you might not be so lucky. It is time to put to rest your failures, confident that they won’t be repeated.

This year has been, perhaps, the hardest and most emotional in my life. The highs were as steep as the lows, and the lessons I have learned this year are the type to follow me for the rest of my life. I have made a list of my “resolutions” for the year, and I share them hoping they inspire the same sense of self-reflection for you that they did for me:

  • I will finally recognize that not everyone has to like me in order for me to be happy
  • I will not take for granted those that genuinely love me for me
  • I will be more careful with my heart, but finally accept that it is worth giving
  • I will be more kind to those that give me their heart
  • I will spend more time in the moment – relishing these last moments of childhood
  • I will realize that not everything is meant to last forever – including friendships
  • I won’t be jealous of what other people have, and recognize the blessings in my own life
  • I will stop being so critical of the way I look, and be more wary of those that are
  • I will not let the actions of others dictate my response
  • I will look before I leap
  • I will dance more, smile more, laugh more, and enjoy the goodness in life

Tomorrow isn’t just another day; it’s another year. A new beginning.

It’s time.

Critical of the way you look? Umm…if critical means slapped in the face by how hot you are every time you look in the mirror I guess you SHOULD stop, ’cause yo cheeks must be getting red.
